Acupuncture Recognized as Natural and Safe Method to Treat Menopause

By the year 2010, it is estimated that over sixty million women in the United States will be experiencing Menopause, many seeking help to manage the uncomfortable symptoms associated with it. In Western medicine, doctors prescribe hormone replacement therapy, but its long-term effects are still unclear. Acupuncture provides women with a safer alternative.

Dr. Xiuling Ma, Ph.D., O.M.D., L.Ac., one of the world's most highly educated practitioners of acupuncture and herbology, can alleviate many Menopausal symptoms by rebalancing the hormonal system, especially headaches and migraines, nervous tension and irritability, hot flashes, mood changes, insomnia, heavy flooding periods, achy joints and changes in sexual desire. Acupuncture also has positive effects on the system to aid poor memory, concentration and sagging skin tone.

"Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) can treat Menopause problems using a natural approach without the aid of synthetic hormones or a lot of prescription drugs," states Dr. Ma.

While Menopause signifies "the change" of a woman's life, most women don't welcome these changes, or the symptoms that go along with them. Dr. Ma distinguishes that these changes occur because a woman's body chemistry is changing. TCM recognizes this "chemistry" transformation as a natural imbalance to the body. By correcting this imbalance through acupuncture and herbs, the associated symptoms of menopause may be treated quite effectively.

Hormonal replacement is perhaps the most commonly used therapy in Western medicine to relieve some of the troublesome symptoms of the Menopause. However, some patients experience side effects, including nausea, breast tenderness and weight gain. Recent research has shown that hormonal replacement therapy can increase the risk of cancer of the breast and uterus. TCM has proved to be effective in relieving Menopause syndrome and the side effects, if any, are negligible compared to the chemicals used in Western medicine.

Additionally, Dr. Ma successfully treats and is available to consult on a wide range of other conditions, including the symptoms of infertility, hair loss in men and women, facial aging and loss of skin tone, pain management and sexual dysfunction.

An articulate expert in the field of TCM, Dr. Ma studied for an impressive 12 years in China and has a Ph.D. She studied directly under two of the most prominent and respected masters of TCM in China today. Dr. Ma maintains a private practice at 864 S. Robertson Blvd., Suite 211, in Los Angeles.
