Sketch of
XIULING
MA, Ph.D., O.M.D., L.Ac. ÊÊ
Based on an article published in The Huang Di Times (Vol 1. No 3,
Summer 1999)
Dr.Xiuling Ma, a licensed California acupuncturist with advanced
degrees from China, is one of the most highly educated professionals
in the field of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), both in China
and in the United States. She graduated first in her class from
the prestigious Beijing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine,and
completed twelve full years years of education in integrated TCM
and Western Medicine. ÊAs part of hereducation, Dr. Ma studied directly
under two distinguished TCM Masters in China--Dr. Jia-San Yang and
Dr. Zi-Fu Chen, both of whom accept only one or two of the brightest
and most dedicated students each year.
ÊDr.
Jia-San Yang is one of the twomost highly respected TCM physicians
in China today, and he is acknowledged as an international expert
on acupuncture and moxibustion, with special expertise in herbology.
ÊAs a result of his mastery, he was one of the very few physicians
authorized to grant Doctoral degrees for acupuncture when Dr. Ma
was hand-picked to study with him for three years. ÊDr. Ma's other
Master, Dr. Zi-Fu Chen is a famous professor specializing in both
acupuncture and herbology.
Before
coming to Los Angeles in1995, Dr. Ma was a professor, physician
and researcher at the Beijing University of TCM. ÊShe also spearheaded
and conducted clinical research as to the efficacy of herbs and
acupuncture intreating various illnesses, such as stroke, asthma,
diabetes, the common coldand many others. ÊIn addition, she published
over a dozen professional books and articles on various TCM subjects,
including acupuncture, herbology and TCM nutrition.
As
a result of Dr. Ma's reputation in China, she accepted an invitation,
in 1995, to become a professor and clinicsupervisor at Emperor's
College of Traditional Oriental Medicine in Santa Monica, California.
ÊShe was subsequently invited to teach courses at Samra University
of Oriental Medicine, and she currently teaches at both colleges.
In
addition, because of her extensive education and experience in integrated
TCM and Western Medicine inChina, along with the experience and
respect she has gained in Los Angeles since 1995, Dr. Ma is authorized
to treat patients at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and at the Daniel
Freeman Hospital. She is also the Acupuncture Program Director of
a research project on the efficacy of acupuncture for stroke patients,
a project coordinated by the USC School of Medicine, the Daniel
Freeman Rehabilitation Center and Emperor's College of TCM.
Dr.
Ma also maintains a private practice (and a complete herbal pharmacy
with raw herbs and herbal preparationsin the form of pills, tinctures,
powders, etc.) where she treats patients with acupuncture and/or
herbology for an extremely wide range of medical conditions, according
to the individual needs of each patient.
